Manufacturing, measuring, and testing of connecting rod fatigue specimens in ENGINE project
The whole manufacturing and material testing process starting from a steel factory.
A steel factory makes the steel melt, casting it as a billet or as a round bar. It is continuous casting, and in these states, all the raw material impurities can arise in this steel bar. A piece of billet is cut to the exact size and then put in the forging shop. The forging shop heats that component for the forging temperature and puts it in the forging die for the forging process. Possible impurities can appear inside the material. After the forging process, the component goes for final machining – shapes, grooves, drillings, and so on. They are machined away. By machining the material slack and finishing surface roughness, material properties of surface defects are very easy to find.
The video discovers the importance and whole complex process of material testing.
